China Africa International Film Festival Opening Ceremony

The First Annual China Africa International Film Festival officially opened on 16 October in Cape Town. The festival is on course to last for three days and has attracted film personalities from China, South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria and many other African nation. The guests come together in celebration of the future cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Africa. A number of heavy weight Chinese and African films will be screened during the festival to showcase the excellence of film industry development between the two regions. At the same time the festival is aiming to bring a wave of interest of Chinese films on the continent.
At the star dazzled event, many world famous celebrities, producers, directors, political figures, and business men from all over Africa and China walked the stretch of glamorous red carpet. The Image Ambassador of the Festival, Ms Tao Hong, was surprised by a fan from Zimbabwe. He bypassed security and professed his undying love for her as she walked down the red carpet.
During the ceremony, the chairman of the Organizing Committee and Head of China Radio International Wang Gengnian sent through words of congratulations. He stated in his message that the China Africa International Film has gained the support from relevant Chinese government departments and is the combined effort of China Radio International, Beijing Film Academy, and Global Max Media Group. It aims to increase the cultural exchange between our people and provide a platform for cooperation and development in the film industry. Therefore, lifting the global influences of Chinese and African films across the world.

The acting Consul-General Cao Li of the Chinese consulate general in Cape Town congratulated the opening of the film festival. He stated that President Xi Jinping proposed ten major sectors of cooperation between China and Africa. One of which is the cultural exchange between our people. The film festival is a perfect representation of the exchange that President Xi has pointed out.


The ceremony was also attended by the Director General of the Department of Arts & Culture Dr Ndima. He greatly praised the Chinese films that he has seen while growing up and is deeply humbled by the honor of the characters in these heroic stories. He said that
