Chinese Contemporary Art Hit SA

JOHANNESBURG -- The Museum Africa in Newtown Johannesburg welcomed the “Art and Peace - An Exhibition of Chinese Contemporary Art” last week. The opening of the exhibition attracted the attention of local artists and industry giants.


The exhibition showcases 40 pieces of contemporary art from distinguished Chinese artists. They centralize around the theme of expressing peace and prosperity through the medium of art, and at the same time promoting the landmarks of “Belt and Road” nations.

Along the ancient silk route, civilizations and cultures have risen in its presence, each having its own unique landmarks and characteristics. Many of the pieces presented these landmarks using traditional Chinese art techniques, as a symbol of harmony between the cultures.
During the opening ceremony, the Director of Arts, Culture and Heritage of COJ Vuyisile Mshudulu spoke about the astounding friendship between China and South Africa. He stated that the two nations have had a long history of political and economical cooperation. However, there is a lacking in cultural exchange and co-development.
Mshudulu also expressed his wish for more South African and Chinese artists to be in touch. So that they may learn from each other and experience more artistic styles.


The exhibition will be in Museum Africa until 21st November 2019. All those who are interested in the fine arts are welcomed to view the pieces.
